I'm walking across America.
That's the idea, at least. I'm walking westward from New York City for nine months or so. If everything goes according to plan, I'll be in Oregon when the clock runs out. If nothing goes according to plan, maybe I'll end up in Peru or Mongolia or Pennsylvania. You can read all about the details of my trip if you're so inclined.

What is with all of the 24 oz. cans? Did you try the half & half ice tea? Was it sweet our unsweet, lemon or no lemon?

They have those in California. Not too bad. Kind of a sweeter V-8.
The budweiser + clamato is actually pretty good, if you DON’T think about the fact that it has clam juice in it.

I would never have tried it on my own, but I’ve toured a couple of Anheuser-Busch (sp? So much fun!) plants and they have samples at the end.
Holy Clamato! Beer mixed with clam juice in a can!? I guess it does take the work out of chasing raw oyster with a bottle of suds. Oh my – tummy gets queasy just thinking about this.
Ha Ha! That is my husbands favorite! Clamato is HUGE in Montana!! It is ordered for at bar’s than tomato juice!!!

Bud Light and Clamato? You’d want to go easy on that stuff. I don’t want to think about the taste on the way back up.
On the other hand, Matt should check out the nutrition label. Maybe there’s some kind of multiplier effect like on the chocolate-covered prunes… :D

When I wore a younger man’s clothes, back in Kansas, it was not uncommon for some folks in the bars to mix tomato juice in their beer. I didn’t indulge, and I’m not sure how popular the clam factor might have been had that been available, but it was done with draft beer, and not prepackaged. Seems to me, it might be like drinking beer with Manhattan Clam Chowder.

The Bud and Clamato is not bad (but not something you’d want buy a case of for a long night!). However, whenever I see these in the cooler, I think Bud and chlamidia (sp?), and it’s just a real turnoff. I know…gross, but just an example of the price I pay for a creative writer’s mind.

Oh, geez. I mentioned the Beer/Clamato thing to my daughter-in-law when it first came up (kinda Fruedian, huh, Michael in Atlanta?) She just got a job at a convenience store and she was surprised that they actually sell quite a bit of that “red beer.” She says it’s pretty popular. I just can’t imagine it!!!!
Red beer is great in the morning. I question the canned version though.

Every time I see those cans in the grocery stores here in WA, I just get sick to my stomach just thinking about it. Not that I drink any kind of alcohol in general (honest engine! My husband LOVES the fact that he has a built in designated driver) but if I did, I would totally stay away from that stuff.
My husband has taught me a lot about beer (he’s a beer snob and we live in the beer capital of the US here) so I can pick out a pretty darn good beer for him. But, he wouldn’t drink Bud if you gave it to him for free.
Some people are wine snobs…I live with THE beer snob. :)
How do you pick it out for him if you don’t drink?

I don’t know how I am so good at picking it…I guess after getting to know what goes into making beer…I’ve just been lucky I guess. I can tell just by the ingredients, look of the beer, and specs.

All the rest of this discussion became mere background noise when I read, “we live in the beer capital of the US here…” We’re talking Washington state, right? Surely you’re not talking Olym, “it’s the water, and not much more,” pia? I’m fairly certain Rainier wouldn’t qualify (or is that wouldn’t have qualified) as the beer to make such a claim about. So, what are we talking about here?
I thought Milwaukee was the beer capital of the US. I lived in Wisconsin for 5 years and those German catholics drink a lot! I know that because I was married to one. There are quite a few beer brands that come from Milwaukee.
Make sure you see all of the cool painted cattle statue/murals while you’re in Great Falls! Keep up the good pace and best of luck!
If it’s “hard” iced tea, wouldn’t it be like hard liquor, and therefore only iced tea… Half and Half is like milk/cream people sometimes put in tea no ? So it’d just be like the tea you make in the morning but cold

When I worked as a bartender in downeast Maine, we always had clamato in the cooler….people would have it with what they wanted on draft (usually Natty Lite….really highbrow!!)
Your in the land of craft beer……please don’t drink a bud…..some good ones out there….Big Sky…try the Trout Slayer…..Prong Horn IPA…….Widmer…Pyramid, Redhook…Black Butte Porter…..the next few hundred miles get your calories for good beer…sorry east coasters….best beer in the country is right in his path….
Now we are talking – those great micro brewers all over this great sudsy land. Although I drink Yuengling most of the time, I love to try micro brews from anywhere.
Michigan is the best beer state in the country, followed closely by California.
Okay, we all get the clams but what the heck is “Chelada” supposed to mean? Is that a take-off on enchilada that they just spelled wrong? ed.

Clamato is very popular in Canada (one of main ingredients for a Bloody Caesar) … I love seafood (including clams) but just could not do it.
