I don’t know Matt, looks a little dirtier than the last one. You really need to stop hanging out in these alleyways though. I’m sure they have other accommodations there for you to rest in besides and alleyway. Just because your a hobo doesn’t mean you have to rest up like one. I can understand when you were out in the fields with the cows you had to sleep under the bridge but now you’re in a bigger town they must surely have a motel to flop in.
Right on John. I love ‘bulk pick-up’ day in my neighborhood. The things people throw out…. Just a little TLC and elbow grease and I can create some awesome one-of-a-kind peices. What fun!
As long as you’re not a hoarder then it becomes just trash. Hoarders think they are doing something good but they’re not.
So, if you’re not a hoarder, not implying that you specifically Candice are, just in general about anyone, then dumpster diving can be fun. But I prefer just looking at peoples garbage out on garbage day. I don’t go out looking like some do. Some friends use to do it when we went camping. Always seemed the weekend we went the town had some good items out. One friend got some really beautiful religious, framed, pictures out of one houses trash pile. And my one neighbor throws out really good stuff. But me personally I’m a minimalist. I’m a thrower outer. My family doesn’t care for it. To each his own. Good stuff can be found and I’m glad Katzien turns it into works of art.
LOL ! Do you actually go into the dumpster? Aren’t you afraid of falling in and getting stuck? Can’t imagine doing it myself but I know people do it all the time. I saw something on TV about it a while back. People in the Seattle area? Not sure but I thought it was up there in the Northwest that they did this show on. Or was it an article I read? Could be, memory isn’t so good. But, hey if you can put stuff to GOOd use and not just leave it hanging around go for it I guess.
Ugh. PLEASE don’t judge Montana or Montanans on Great Falls… Truth is, its an Air Force town, with all that that implies, good and bad. Helena is a much better representation of a bigger city in Montana, but I bet Matt is going to Missoula instead. If so, you will LOVE the pics of the mountain pass town of Lincoln (Unabomber home), and the Intersection in Missoula where three streets converge (yes, a penta-section!)…
I was in Montana in 1996 and passed through Lincoln on my way to Missoula. The reporters and cameras and helicopters were out in full force looking for the unabombers cabin. I still have a Lincoln Montana coffe cup from there. I love the awesome state of Montana!
What in the… I miss your posts for one day, and now you’re in an alley!? We’ren’t you just in rolling fields of amber grain and clouds, streets with rumble strips, and hay bales in fields? It looks like you got tele-transported to inner ciry-dom….yes, as Earl says, “the Bronx”!!
That's the idea, at least. I'm walking westward from New York City for nine months or so.
If everything goes according to plan, I'll be in Oregon when the clock runs out.
If nothing goes according to plan, maybe I'll end up in Peru or Mongolia or Pennsylvania.
You can read all about the details of my trip
if you're so inclined.
Do you feel vaguely like Jack Kerouac in these places?
Honestly, I don’t think the Dharma Bums got anything on Matt Green IMHO.

I agree…In Hobo Nation we are respectable bums. But Matt has played it safe so far…..just pictures and observations we must keep that in mind.
Oh, I wonder what treasures lies in that big dumpster?
John – wonder if the owner of that van would back it up a bit over the dumpster and let you use the cargo door for a springboard. ;o)

I no longer live in an area having “dumpster dive” capability. :( I agree – One person’s trash is another person’s treasure!

No – I’m not a hoarder – but if I see something I can make USE of – I’m not afraid to dumpster dive for it.

Do you have pepper spray?
Oops – that was meant for the new gear page.
Those transformers look like 3 FAT CATS!
Well…one of the cats is missing an ear. Must be a rough neighborhood.
Whoa Candice…they DO look like fat cats! Hee hee! The one with the missing ear has been in a rumble with other, lesser cats.
:)
It looks like this alley will turn into a “not-so-good” alley upon nightfall.
sure hope he got a chance to walk down by the river and down to the falls – they are quite spectacular.
http://www.bigskyfishing.com/Montana-Info/great-falls-pictures.shtm – much better in person – w
they sure look awesome in the pics… I’ll have to check them out next trip through MT… thanks for the link Glenda!
I kept looking at the picture and then had a mighty AHA moment. This alley is identical to one in the game VICE City or something like that!
