Be glad it was rumble strips, in all that “what is considered emptiness” drivers have a tendency to fall asleep. Hopefully, those rumbles would wake them, before a crash. Bet you are feeling that altitude that we talked about in ND high plains more now! It was gradual, pretty soon will be steeper! Drink lots!
I’m glad to see that the trucker gave you plenty of room! It looks like a pretty busy stretch… I don’t think I’ve seen you post a picture with more than one vehicle in it – except of course we’ve seen parked cars in places…
I noticed that as well! Glad to see it. Matt – I know Alabama’s interstates are pretty much rumble stripped all they way. Not sure about the state roads.
Did you make music? lets see, how would that go, ahhhhh, ahhhhh, ahhhhh with a rumble sound like you used to do in the grocery stores over those bumpy metal plates on the floor? or am I the only one who would do that?
I guess after ten miles of making “music” you’d be pretty worn out though. I agree with Don, watch out for those trucks as it looks like there’s not much room there for you to walk.
I agree…will keep you awake. But love your humor in a way….say the title….looked at the picture…(oh my inside) and then read the captions….Big Semi almost sucks you away .. .and your comment is on the rumble strips. Good one Matt. You can say Gotcha to me….Stay safe. I know you will
Truckers usually report any item of interest to those within their CB range, which is usually a few miles. So I’m sure that folks are looking out for him on a busy road like that.
Glad to see Matt is walking facing oncoming traffic! The tow lots here seem to have a new vehicle in them each week that have been obvious rollovers.
Matt should be seeing numerous deer in this area, as well as a bald eagle family that has nested in this area for about the last 5-6 years. And the Belt Mountains will be a challenge, a precursor to the Rockies.
Matt may also see Air Force pickups (Dark Blue), and HumVees with a top machine gun turret! This would be the crews moving from missle control center to control center. Hopefully Matt will take a pic of one, basically a square-fenced piece of land right off the road with no other apparent reason.. Looks random, but there’s missles down there!
Oh my, I can not imagine what that must have felt like on the hands….were they numb after 10 miles of this? This must’ve taken some serious patience … to complete the 10 miles like this and to NOT want to jump infront of the Mack truck.
Thanks so very much for inspiring me. I have opened my own Etsy store a a direct result o your blog. I’m hoping to earn enough to take a yearlong road trip across the USA.
hahahaha, that sucks! It’s like that episode of the Simpsons where Homer is driving down a country road and he passes a sign that says “Sewage Treatment Plant, Next 40 Miles.”
Oh the vibration must have been so awful! I don’t like hitting them with the car- so can’t imagine the patience it took to push a cart over 10 miles of bumps! Matt… you are one strong guy! Keep it up…
That's the idea, at least. I'm walking westward from New York City for nine months or so.
If everything goes according to plan, I'll be in Oregon when the clock runs out.
If nothing goes according to plan, maybe I'll end up in Peru or Mongolia or Pennsylvania.
You can read all about the details of my trip
if you're so inclined.
Matt
Be careful now-THE HOBO NATION does not want you to get hit by one of them ther 18 wheelers! Just keep rumbling on.
I bet this was not any fun for you.
Be safe, cool and hydrated!

Let’s get ready to rumble!

The mom in me is coming out………..please be careful! We all love you Matt!
I can’t stand those in a car, can’t imagine them on foot with a cart. Take care, the road looks ominous.
The road looks busy (for some reason I never imagined you walking so close to big rigs). Please be safe!
Stupid dumb rumble strips!! Oy…that would give me a headache.
Hope you’re getting some of our cool weather that we’re having here in Vancouver, WA!!
Ouch! All that vibration from the strips, the wear and tear on the feet/knees, etc.
Hope he found a place for a good soak. If not at someone’s home, then perhaps in a creek.
Smoother walkin’ and rollin’ tomorrow, Matt.
It is a nice picture too, very pretty.
it’s to keep you awake, be thankful. maybe we can produce matt bobble heads??
I NODD yes on that one. Right next to my Plastic Jesus…….
ps..there are a couple jokes in that one
I love this idea….
I guess Google Maps needs to develop a push-cart friendly map tool…
i hope you were wearing undies that time hahahaha!

An evil road because the semi looks like one of those Star Wars villains?
Safe travels Matt!
Gigi – now that you mentioned it, that semi does resemble one of those Star Wars’ imperial stormtroopers!
OMG…totally looks like the stormtrooopers. Hilarious!!! Careful out there Matt. Wave to folks as you pass by. ;-)
next stop: BELT, MONTANA population 633
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belt,_Montana
Wow that sucks ….
In spite of the evil road and the evil semi – I’m loving the blues and greens – larger hills – I want to walk up those hills!
Stay safe Matt – Hope you are wearing your safety vest!
P.S. Thanks to Mr. Semi for giving way and thank goodness there was no oncoming traffic such that Mr. Semi COULD GIVE WAY.
YOU STAYED AWAY DIDNT YOU?
Looks like you’re heading in the direction which you can see oncoming traffic, Matt, and spot any possible swerving nappers. Please be safe!
Rest assured, Matt is well aware of the walk-against-traffic rule.
Thank you Barbara! No doubt after nearly 2300 miles Matt is one experienced veteran pedestrian-extraordinaire.
Hopefully the truck drivers are using their cb radios ( if they still make them) to let his fellow truck drivers know to keep an eye out for Matt.
Truckers usually report any item of interest to those within their CB range, which is usually a few miles. So I’m sure that folks are looking out for him on a busy road like that.

I believe that is a Peterbilt truck not a Mack. A Mack truck has a Bull dog on the hood. Be safe Matt…
You make the most common things seem so beautiful & appealing. You always make me wish I were there.
Thanks so very much for inspiring me. I have opened my own Etsy store a a direct result o your blog. I’m hoping to earn enough to take a yearlong road trip across the USA.
Matt
Hope you had your poligrip on. If not, after 10 miles your teethers would be a shak-rattlin-and rowing!
Now he knows what a pebble feels like in a gold sluice.
Wonder what this guy will feel….
http://runtellmanrun.com/route-map/
He’s running across USA BAREFOOT!
