It is my belief that barbershops, more than any other type of business, tend to substitute z's for s's in their names. I'm actually stunned that this is the first such barbershop I've seen on this walk; I must have passed some without noticing.
This is the counterpoint to my walk across the US. Instead of seeing a million places for just a minute each, I'm going to spend a million minutes exploring just one place. By the time I finish walking every block of every street in all five boroughs, I'll have traveled more than 8,000 miles on foot — all within a single city. Details!
Your donations allow me to keep walking full-time. If you think what I'm doing is valuable and you'd like to offer some support, I would be very grateful. On the other hand, if you think I'm a worthless bum, feel free to email me and tell me to get a job, bozo. Both are excellent options!
Yep. Agreed. They are all over the place.
Maybe the custom began as a way to save money on signage (one Z instead of ES in some cases), but it is now part of the industry vernacular.
Back on day 6 you passed by one. It’s in the background of the meat shop sign you posted. And there may have been one more too.
(Sorry, maybe you were more specifically referring to the use of the “z’s” in the names.)
You’re right, I didn’t word that very clearly. I’ll fix it.
