Aha! It's part of the MillionTreesNYC program. The flip side of the tag has care instructions on it. The trees in the background are also part of this program, and are also Canada red chokecherries.

Mystery of the tree bracelet (see Day 12) solved.
According to the site Matt provided, there have already been 500,000 trees planted.
There is one of these trees in the yard here. The birds love the red berries, and don’t seem to mind the thorns.

OH!! Those trees are my favorite ever. They are extremely fast growing and hearty. I am in MT and they do awesome here.
iphone has an app that allows you to take a picture of the leaf and it will tell you what tree it is! “leafsnap.com”
