Day 851

Mom’s Liquor Store

April 29th, 2014

Sounds so wholesome!

The big rusty arrow in the background is a relic of the long-defunct ferry service that preceded the Bayonne Bridge in connecting Staten Island to Bayonne, New Jersey.

  1. Sandi says:

how do you learn things like what the old, rusty arrow was all about?

    • Matt Green says:

In this case, “Bayonne Ferry” is still faintly legible on the arrow. I didn’t even notice it when I walked by, however. I found out about it by reading the Forgotten New York page linked above while researching something else. I made a note to check it out the next time I walk by, but then I found that I had inadvertently captured it in a photo.

  2. Humphrey Wilder says:

Some of Momma’s liquor breathed the spirit of knowledge into the boy who walks
