I don’t have a particular method. It doesn’t really matter whether an individual route looks neat or messy; the key is just to try not to leave yourself with isolated sections of streets to walk in areas where you’ve already walked everything else. For simplicity’s sake, I often try to knock out consecutive parallel streets in the same day, but that’s not always possible to do efficiently because of all the irregularities in the various street grids. Plus, sometimes it’s just fun to spread out a day’s route and see a wider geographic range.
This is the counterpoint to my walk across the US. Instead of seeing a million places for just a minute each, I'm going to spend a million minutes exploring just one place. By the time I finish walking every block of every street in all five boroughs, I'll have traveled more than 8,000 miles on foot — all within a single city. Details!
Your donations allow me to keep walking full-time. If you think what I'm doing is valuable and you'd like to offer some support, I would be very grateful. On the other hand, if you think I'm a worthless bum, feel free to email me and tell me to get a job, bozo. Both are excellent options!
Wow, that’s a really spread out route there. How do you decide your route for each day?

I like this new route map feature.
