Day 5

Speaking of Steinways…

January 4th, 2012

This is the Steinway Mansion, located at the top of a hill on an otherwise grim and industrial stretch of 41st Street.

P.S. It's for sale!

Thanks for the link Matt, great story and nice pics of the inside of the mansion, too.

Wow. What a piece of history. Thanks for finding and sharing this Matt.

  3. Like so many “mansions” of that era…it is a sad ending of the story…I’m sure much great living in the early years…all down hill from there, it seems…great piece of land years ago…today, no one wants it…amazing…I guess if we put all our dreams in a house or neighborhood, we are bound to be disappointed…I prefer putting our dreams in people…the “upkeep” may even be cheaper!!!…

Hay Jim..above me here! Yea..amazing what was “once” a mansion..compared to todays standards.
Jim’s words are awesome….think about it….the house is ‘what it is’….but the instruments that bare it’s former owner’s name….they are classics through the rest of time.

  5. If that beautiful house with all the history were in my area it would be saved for future generations to visit and learn from.

Oh my goodness! What a house. And at 2.5 mil…it’s a BARGAIN in NY! These are the types of places that really, really need to be saved for future generations to see and experience. After visiting Germany/Belgium this Fall and seeing the Castles, Churches, old buildings, etc…it seems to me that American’s are dumb. This type of house is part of the American History…even if it is in a not so great neighborhood…and deserves to be saved.

    Sigh.
