Day 160

Looking south from the Union Street Bridge

June 7th, 2012

This bridge, a double-leaf rolling bascule, spans the picturesque Gowanus Canal. In the distance, you can see a wondrous blue bridge, which we'll learn more about in due time.

Thanks for the wiki link, that’s a cool animation of the movement of the bridge.

Very interested to hear your travels/insights/historical anecdotes surrounding the Canal (and, if possible, the Culver Line overpass). This blog is continually engrossing.

Maybe not as interesting (and certainly not as well lit), but if you ever considered visiting every NYC subway station and riding every line, I’d definitely read that blog, too. But, obviously, one thing at a time.
