Campsite blackberries!

August 15th, 2010

There are more blackberries growing wild around here than I could eat in a year.

Day 142

Maryhill Museum

August 15th, 2010

Looks more like an NYC public school (which is not an insult; many are quite beautiful) than an "old-world chateau".

Things are now legally scenic.

Day 143

Awesome! Want a beer?

August 16th, 2010

That was Dan's reply when I told him about my trip. And after baking out in the sun for hours, I couldn't have asked for a better ending to the day: beers, a shower, and a real bed!

Day 144

On my way to Oregon. Google told me to cross the Columbia over the Bonneville Dam, which is not open to the public. (Google also suggested I walk out of Manhattan through the Lincoln Tunnel. Google has yet to master river crossings.) I called ahead to request permission to cross the dam and was told it is "too hazardous".

Day 144

Oregon!

August 17th, 2010

My first stop in my last state: the restroom. Even the urinal flush button is reminding me I'm almost done.

Day 144

A sign on the bridge lists a 50-cent pedestrian toll, but the toll collector told me walkers cross for free! This bridge is part of the Pacific Crest Trail, meaning I've now crossed all three major north-south US hiking trails: the Appalachian Trail, the Continental Divide Trail, and the PCT.

Day 144

Wonderful

August 17th, 2010

Reminds me of the day I left New York.
