On the lower level of Lake Shore Drive, one of Chicago's many multilevel streets, as it crosses the Chicago River.
Ashley met up with me yesterday evening near my brother's place, where I'll be staying for a few days, and bought me a beer to celebrate my arrival in Chicago.
Two more lazy days at Jonathan's place before I hit the road again Sunday morning. Today's one order of business: finding rain pants that don't leak.
And probably between 2200 and 2300 left to go. I'm making much better time than I expected, walking more miles per day and taking only a few rest days. I now expect to be done in less than seven months total.

Water poured out of this pipe, coming out of the wall of the Allstate building in Wheeling, into the parking lot.
But doesn't this mean something like "Villa of Sorrows"?
Rev. Marc at St. Mary Parish in Buffalo Grove hooked me up with Ray, who owns an alpaca farm in nearby Long Grove (and whose wife is the mayor of Long Grove!). After a couple of beers and a tour of the farm (which included alpaca petting), Ray let me have the run of the farmhouse for the evening.
We shared a nice moment. I gave him a head rub and he peed on the sidewalk.
Congratulations to Jessica and Tim, who just got married a couple of days ago! They let me stay in their camper last night, and invited me in for dinner, which I got to share with the kids when they returned from Brody's baseball game (he batted 1.000), and breakfast, which featured homemade "rhubarb goo". Jessica also packed me up some wedding reception goodies for the road.

Rex the Wonder Dog shows off his soccer skillz while Tim plays the concertina.
Tim's father, who served as an M.P. in the army, restored this '57 Chevy (and many others, as well).
The barrel is protecting the mailbox post. It was awesomer when I thought the mailbox was just sitting on the barrel.
Last night we had popcorn and iced tea as we watched an episode of Nova, and this morning Karen sent me off with the most delicious breakfast imaginable: homemade s'mores pizza!
